About Olivia McGill 

From newsrooms to communications
 

I’m Olivia McGill, founder of McGill Communications. I help organisations communicate clearly when it matters, whether they’re building their profile, navigating change, preparing for the media or helping leaders communicate with greater confidence.

For more than 20 years, I’ve worked in journalism and communications. My journalism career included Al Jazeera English, Sky News, Reuters and the Irish Independent, where I learned how stories are shaped, what makes people pay attention and why clarity matters when the pressure is on.

I later moved into PR and communications, working with organisations across the corporate, nonprofit and social impact sectors. That experience on both sides gives me a useful perspective: I understand what journalists need, but I also understand the realities organisations face when they need to communicate complex issues.

Why me?

I combine a journalist’s instinct for finding the story with the strategic communications experience to understand the bigger picture.

That means I don’t start with “What should we say?” I start with what you need communication to achieve, who you need to reach and what they need to understand, feel or do.
